Clean Water Projects

A lack of clean water causes illness and untimely death. We worked with the community of Sangmelima to create a clean water source for a school and neighboring community.

Plant A Seed Africa embarked on a fundraiser to raise just money to build a well for a school in Sangmelima, Cameroon. We eventually partnered with the Notre Dame student chapter of Engineers Without Borders and raised the money to build a sustainable well. The well serves the local private school as well as the community. Water-born diseases have reduced, and students can take clean drinking water home after school. This has also raised the time the child has to travel to get clean after a full school day. Before the well was built, students used water for an infested pond. Plant a Seed made multiple trips to Cameroon with the students. The collaborative project benefited the Notre Dame students, the school, and the community.

Cross-cultural collaboration is a pillar of the work that Plant a Seed does. We believe that US students can learn from African students and partners through cross-cultural charitable projects. Students are immersed in cultural experiences such as music, dressing, dance, food, hiking, shopping, and more. The student also had opportunities to exercise and play with locals. They were equally provided opportunities to teach students at the schools or offer training to the students.
